I’ve been a patient at this practice for about 30 years, and have been consistently pleased with the care I’ve received. Though Shari is my usual hygienist, I saw Christian during my latest visit, and was very impressed with how gentle yet thorough my cleaning was!
Ever since I came to Dentistry at 1818 Market street 5 years ago, my dental hygiene has improved. The staff are super kind, knowledgeable, and will have you in and out on time. Today I had a cleaning by a dental hygienist named Barbara Walters (not joking) and she gave me so much knowledge about dental hygiene and made me feel so relaxed I forgot I was getting my teeth cleaned. Looking forward to my next teeth cleaning.
This is a really great dental practice. I always have a pleasant experience. Dr. Hochster is an excellent dentist and super nice and approachable. The staff is also amazing – they’re very knowledgeable and gentle when cleaning. I don’t dread going to the dentist anymore!
I would NOT recommend 1818 Dentistry.I have had a pleasant experience with the dentists and hygienists but won’t be returning to the practice on account of the front desk staff. I consider myself patient and agreeable but found the staff both incompetent and rude after only three visits to the practice.My new patient visit was excellent – Dr. Hochster had a very pleasant demeanor and answered all of my questions patiently and professionally. The hygienist was gentle but thorough.After my second visit, a routine cleaning, I was going to schedule orthodontia service with the gentleman at the front desk. After I waited 30min for him to figure the billing, he returned to me with a paper copy of a grossly inaccurate estimate. Upon asking for more transparency and billing codes, I was met with dismissive and rude attitude. I have since found another provider at a >30% discount.I was going to change providers altogether after this experience but it slipped my mind. I was auto-scheduled into another routine cleaning and despite my better judgment, I went. After waiting 45min in the lobby for a 9:30am appointment, I left at 10:15am out of frustration and because I had a meeting to attend.I won’t be returning, so it makes no difference to me, but for the sake of customer care I would recommend that Dr. Siegal investigates, implements disciplinary action, and makes the necessary staffing changes.I can’t imagine Dr. Leas would find the state of the practice he began to be acceptable.
Great practice. I had a regular check-up that lasted a half hour and started on time. The hygienist Barbara was very friendly and skilled in her work. The dentist was also professional and had a good patient manner. I felt secure with my dental care. They prioritize patient comfort and minimize anxiety.

Although I was disappointed that my lost filling was not replaced on my first visit there; I was impressed that Jaquill took an x-ray of the tooth in question. It’s utilizing extra caution and greatly appreciated for the sake of current accuracy! The office is clean and STAFF was wonderful, especially STEPHANIE!!!HOWEVER, the well appointed waiting area was nice, but the floor needed a good scrubbing and in these times sanitization. Because balancing the paperwork on my lap, I dropped my mask on that floor and was unable to reuse it.Dr. Was kind, and professional!!!
The whole experience was great! All the staff are so helpful and friendly. The dental hygienist put me at ease right away which was great for someone with anxiety about going to the dentist. And the dentist was awesome.
I’ve gone to 1818 Dentistry for over 5 years and have always had the most positive experiences with Dr. Siegel. Shari, one of the dental hygienists, is so warm and friendly, not to mention great at her job. They are always mindful of my time and get me in and out quickly.
The dental practice at 1818 Market is exceptional. The quality care I have received there is unsurpassed. I’ve had a root canal performed there, and had numerous crowns fitted and affixed there. I couldn’t be happier with work. Dr. Siegel is at the top of his game. He’s a consummate professional with a friendly demeanor. Top notch practice.
I went to Dentistry at 1818 Market Street to get a replacement crown for my front tooth. The crown I had was ugly and did not match my other teeth. For my first visit, Dr. Siegel removed the old crown and measured me for a new one. For the second visit, the replacement tooth was great, but my tooth underneath was dark and it showed through the crown. He returned it to the lab and it was corrected and when I returned for the last visit, the crown turned out to be fabulous. It’s great to smile with confidence!!The staff is very friendly and professional and the office is clean. I highly recommend Dr. Siegel for all of your dental needs! You won’t be disappointed.
The dentist and hygienist was nice but office stuff are very rude . Recently I receive a bill, for one year old service . My dental condition is very good . I do dental cleaning twice every year to maintain it . Last year ( 2022, May) I went to them for regular cleaning. Before I go I called them to make sure my dental insurance will cover it full( as regular check up and cleaning twice a year is free) . They told me it will be since its a annual check up . I told them that I do not need any special Services as my dental condition is very good. And two weeks ago( March 2023) I receive one bill from them for May, 2022 Service. I called them , they said I need to talk with my insurance . My insurance told me , they provide me some special Service. My insurance company called the office at least 6 times . Every single time they put them in hold and did not talk to solve the problem . I also called several time requesting them to communicate with my insurance . They were keep telling me to call them later because they have lots of work to do . It was very clear that, they do not have any intention to help me or solve the issue . First you provide me some Service which was not necessary with out letting me know and then you have such a nasty attitude. It is shameful that for few dollar you show your true color . I will never go there any more and I will post this to all the group around Rittenhouse area which I am in .So people know before they fall into this situation . Never seen any office stuff with this type of nasty attitude. You were not doing any favor ,talking with my Insurance , it is your job . Learn to do your job without showing your attitude.
I was visiting Philadelphia on business and developed some symptoms that potentially indicated a dental emergency. On recommendation of one of my Philadelphia colleagues, I called The Dentistry at 7:30 am. I expected to get voicemail but a staff member answered. I explained my situation. He initially said they could take me the next day, but while we were on the phone he saw a cancellation and was able to get me in that afternoon. The staff was professional, nice and reassuring. They took an X-ray, and Dr Siegel conducted a thorough examination. He reassured me that the situation was not serious, and that I should check in with my regular dentist when I returned home, putting me completely at ease. When I returned to my Philadelphia office, I learned that a number of my colleagues are patients of this practice, and I can see why.
The people are always wonderful, from the front desk, to the hygienists, to the doctors – they are all very friendly.They always take their time to explain what they are doing and are very cautious to be gentle.Highly recommend.
The dental hygienist and medial team are extremely nice here. However, the office manager is a bit rude and abrasive. And looking at previous comments, this is obviously a common take away from this facility. Personally, as a black woman I think its important to feel safe and respected when I visit any medical facility. And for some reason it seems as if this location makes excuses for the poor customer service as opposed to correcting the problem. The reality is that the front office is the face of this facility, they are the individuals that you see when you walk in the door and the individuals you speak with when scheduling an appointment. It’s unfortunate that one individual (on multiple occasions) has tainted my viewpoint of this practice. It’s even more unfortunate that when I called to share my frustrations, I was told “sorry that you felt that way (not an apology)” and “If you don’t want to be a patient here, that’s fine as well” (which was unnecessary considering that I never mentioned leaving).Outside of the customer service experience, this facility is great. But personally for me, customer service and how people speak to me is just as important as the medical services being provided. And when I chose a medical practice, its a long-term relationship so everything has to align. I hope others have a better experience than I had. And I hope moving forward that the individuals at this practice learn how to talk to clients with respect and empathy.
I was a patient for many years and happy with the service. I went in for a routine cleaning (I get one every six months) and when it was done was told that there were no open appointments available to schedule my next cleaning 6 months out. Apparently they took on too many new patients and didn’t have the staff to service both current patients and new patients. I was told nothing could be done, I sent a follow up message post appointment through the website and received no reply more than 3 weeks later. I hope they find a way to better manage their resources in the future. Went in for a routine cleaning and found out it was apparently my last visit. Great dentist if routine cleanings aren’t important to you I guess… honestly I wish they had just said “Scott, we’re having a temporary staffing issue. If you can be flexible with us we will put your name on a list and ensure you get your next cleaning.” I would have been fine to even skip one cleaning with some reassurance and follow up on their end.
Great service, promptly called back for my visit on time. The hygienist Rosemary was very thorough and kind with my cleaning. My teeth were fine, so the dentist just barely popped in to give me the all clear. Receptionist Drew was helpful in updating my insurance and scheduling my next appointment. Overall great experience and will be continuing to come to Dentistry at 1818 Market!
Waited 8 months for an appointment, waited 10-15 minutes at the building front desk to get to the office, was told once I got to the office I was late and they needed to reschedule. I was late by 8 minutes due to building they were located in. Was treated very rudely because I was “late”. Told them what happened at front desk so they were aware and still treated poorly by front desk. I understand you have to keep a schedule, but no reason to treat people so rudely, particularly when your building caused the delay. Not going back!I was not offered availability the following day. I was offered a cleaning in May. And I was offered a cleaning the same day via a call back after my wife called in and spoke to someone about transferring our records to another dentist.
I had the best dental experience ever. All the staff were polite, friendly and professional. They explained every detail of my exam and cleaning, step by step. After my cleaning I literally said “that was the best cleaning experience I’ve ever had”. I’ve been to the dentist plenty of times but I’ve never had a doctor explain to me how to properly take care of my crown and what to look out for. They made it so comfortable for me to ask questions without judgement. If you’re looking for smooth, professional dental services this is your place.
I have been going Dentistry at 1818 for over a decade and find Dr Siegal to be super compassionate and great. As someone who doesn’t need much more than cleanings, I think most of the team is professional, nice and quick. Shout out to the hygienist, Bisa for her humor and excellent cleaning. She made it a pleasure. I highly recommend going here.
The hygienists are wonderful, however the customer service of the people answering phones and working at reception leave a lot to be desired. They are very rude to deal with. I also find the dentists to be very unfriendly.
Initially over the phone it was a rough go. The young gentleman was very assertive when I didn’t have my correct insurance information as if I was trying to get a free cleaning. Lol. I booked anyway and was given additional info by a young lady who told me how to fill out initial forms online.My appointment went well. The staff was courteous and the Doc was very professional. The only thing I was baffled at was why I couldn’t get my teeth cleaning done the same time as the imaging? They even asked me if I could come back at 11 which was a little more than 2 hours after my initial appointment. That just seemed bizarre to me.Overall, the experience was good. Going back for my cleaning next April.
I am very pleased with the care I receive at Dentistry at 1818 Market St. To say that my hygienist, Barbara, is superb would be a deep understatement. She is quite thorough; explains exactly and precisely what she’s doing all throughout the cleaning process, and; she gives you a very detailed explanation of what she has observed about everything concerning your teeth, gums, bone structures of your jaw—even your tongue health! But what is so impressive, in addition to her clear dedication to performing an excellent job, is her sheer enthusiasm for her profession and for the biomedical research done in the dental field. She respects her clients such that, if she detects that you are the kind of person who wants access to this type of in-depth information, she will point you in that direction directly. She firmly believes that a great deal of her job is educating her client as much as possible. Last (if she has them in stock), you get goodies! After my first teeth cleaning with Barbara earlier this year, among other things I received a neat tongue scraper–an invaluable little tool so that now I don’t have to use a spare toothbrush.My attending dentist, Dr. Jonathan Siegel, is deeply knowledgeable, approachable and friendly. One of his best methods is the in-depth conversation he has with you during the initial consult. Be prepared to not have your cleaning that first visit, but your x-rays and bite wings will be taken and a careful assessment made of the present condition of your teeth (really your entire mouth) will be made. He astutely offers alternative approaches to any given dental situation, and you would trust his advice precisely because he takes the time to hear your dental history from you, the client, as well as by looking at your records. I have only seen Dr. Siegel twice this year, but I felt keenly heard on both occasions, and I am very confident in his guidance and suggested courses of action. The best quality he has, in my opinion, is that he doesn’t rush the client into making snap decisions about anything (even when it’s clear he’s extremely busy). I appreciate this quality greatly—we’re presently taking a reasonable “watch and see” approach to a small issue I have that I don’t feel compelled to respond to right at this moment. Just knowing that it’s on both his and Barbara’s radars, though, makes me feel much more confident in being able to take my time with the matter–I trust them and feel like I’m a true partner in my own care.Last, but never, ever least, the support staff is excellent–from the front desk receptionists and schedulers to the first receiving dental associates. The receptionists are swift and business-like, yes, but they never rude or off-putting. They all possess just the correct balance of very necessary efficiency (the office is extremely busy at all times) and warmth shown to the client. I’m really happy that I’ve found a dental group I’m thoroughly comfortable with after my former group stopped taking my dental insurance. I’ll be staying Dentistry at 1818 Market a very long time. If you are comfortable with the pace of a very busy, Center City located dental office, and don’t mind a smaller office space, I HIGHLY recommend this practice.

Dentistry recommends replacing fillings due to old age, which is against ADA’s Choosing Wisely recommendations to reduce unnecessary dental procedures.Unfortunately, response is not honest, the reason procedures were recommended was because fillings are old, nothing wrong with breaking down. There is no need for further response and understand how the dentist communicated.
The office is conveniently located. Staff are always personable. Barbara, one of the hygienists, is phenomenal. They’re highly communicative, sending reminders for appointments by email and text. The practice was recommended by a colleague and I have since recommended it to other colleagues.
I’ve been to a lot of dentists in the past and I would have to say Denistry at 1818 Market st is very professional but also kind. I appreciate how kind the dental assistants, hygienists and dentists were. I’m not a fan of the dentist, but it was surprisingly not a bad experience because everyone was so nice. Thank you!

This place is very professional! The staff is amazing, friendly, courteous! They get you in and out. They are good at making suggestions about how to make your smile prettier. They’re also concern with your health. Dr. Siegel is the best! I definitely recommend them for your dental health.
I will start by saying that this review is based solely on my recent appointment experience. I have been treating with Dr. Doblin for several years now and absolutely loved working with him and his hygienists in addressing my issues. I give Dr. Doblin 5 stars.Unfortunately, over the years, my experience with interacting with the front desk, specifically the male receptionist, has been uninviting but not to the point of reducing my opinion to a review. Most recently, I had a 8 am appointment which I rushed to through crazy center city traffic and an ongoing search for parking. I called the office to inform them of the situation and was told that I would not be seen due to their 10-minute grace period policy. I find this policy is not conducive to the office’s downtown location and parking prohibitions that are in place during the morning hours. There was no budging by the receptionist and I was simply told to reschedule in September – 6 months from my current appointment. Considering the sacrifice made to make the appointment on time and the difficulties with navigating traffic, a circumstance beyond my control, I was left unhappy and considering finding new dental care. If you live or work in the City, then this location may be worth the try. But if you don’t, then this business and it’s 10-minute policy may not work in your favor.
I’ve been to enough dentists that I can easily recognize a good one. Dr. Siegel is great! He communicates directly with me about my care and thoroughly answers my questions. He’s also gentle and compassionate. The front desk staff are all very professional and there’s never a long wait.
I’ve been going to Dr Seigel, and Dentisty at 1818 Market Street, for years. They are an awesome team and they help me keep up with my dental health.(As an added bonus, the team takes care to not pinch my lips/cheeks when they are going in with the instruments)!!!

I have been going to Dentistry at 1818 for approximately 14yrs while Dr. Leas was there with Dr. Siegel. I have had nothing but quality care from day one! I love Dr. Siegel and the fact that he really listens to the patient and gives direction and treatment plans thoroughly. Born with extreme Tori in my mouth, I would suggest that anyone with this condition visit Dr. Siegel and consider making him your dentist! Also, I love Drew, the front desk manager, my hygienist Sherry, and also Nicole and Dr. Doblin!! 2022 the staff and doctors at this office are amazing! Very courteous and caring staff and very quick visit!I like the fact that I didn’t have a long wait time since I often go to my appointments on my lunch break. The staff was courteous and Dr. Siegel is nice.
They are a great dentist, it took me a while after moving to Philadelphia to find a dentist I liked, but Dr. Siegel, the hygienists, and the front desk are all great. The only down side is they are difficult to schedule with, I suppose due to high demand (almost all hygienist slots are filled 6 months out), but otherwise I have been very happy with them. I have a complicated insurance policy, and the front was very helpful in sorting through it and figuring it all out when I started coming here years ago.
The day of my first visit, I got very lucky because a slot opened up for a cleaning, and Dr. Siegel was kind enough to fit me in early. Barbara then did a fantastic job cleaning my teeth and advising me on how to maintain them going forward. I definitely recommend the practice!

I was satisfied with the work they did for my first filling here. However, the second time did not come out well.Regardless of my not-very-friendly doctor (I know it’s not their responsibility to make me feel less nervous but a bit of friendliness is highly appreciated), my teeth started being very painful and sensitive after a month of filling it. I was abroad, so I had to stop eating and drinking by my right side to sooth the pain until I come back.An assistant checked my teeth and initially said oh I see the report says the cavity was too deep (it was not) and let me take an x-ray. After a few minutes, she said oh but let me check if the shape and height of the filling is okay. She checked and said wow this filling is too high and this is why you are in pain. She eventually fixed it right away.But let me go back to my filling day: the doctor did the emptying and then left it to her assistant to fill it. It took her a long time to do it and when she was done, I felt like the filling was twice as high as it needed to be. So she started sanding it for about 20 mins until it was okay. The doctor came and checked her work and apparently everything was okay, but of course it was not. It resulted in being too sensitive even to room-temperature water after a month.I still have one teeth to fill and I will not go back here.
All the staff I encountered were very kind and professional. I have been here twice now and will continue to come back for all my dental needs. I’ve seen two different hygienists and both have been wonderful. I will also recommend to my friends based on my good experience!
Love this place! Always friendly and efficient! Dr. Siegal is caring and thoughtful, always taking the time to sit down and explain anything needed as well. Barbara Walters is by far the best hygienist I’ve even been to as well!! She is thorough and has been the only one to be able to get my teeth plaque free in the trouble areas AND without feeling likes extracting my teeth with it. Very happy to be going here and would definitely recommend!

After being in Philly for 9 years with the same dentist who I did not care for very much… I wanted to make a change to a new dentist. I honestly wish I found them about 9 years earlier. Excellent staff across the board from front office – hygienists – Dr Siegel… entire team is terrific.
I would happily give 5/5 for the dental filling and the cleaning service I received, very professional!But 0/5 for missing out a big cavity in my teeth after taking 16 X-ray images and inspecting my teeth in the initial appointment a month ago. I even told the dentist I saw something black in my wisdom teeth on upper left jaw that they then inspected and said it must be something stuck but it’s not cavity as it doesn’t show in X-rays.I was still getting annoyed as the black thing wouldn’t come off and a medical friend was confident that was a cavity. So I brought it up when I went back for a filling appointment and they confirmed its a cavity and I should get my wisdom teeth removed ASAP – which I really wish I knew before!!Looking back, the X-rays did not cover the whole tooth in any of the 16 panel images so I guess they couldn’t spot the cavity? But how could a dentist miss such a big cavity!! I even had a oral surgeon appointment somewhere else, and they suggested I could wait a little for getting wisdom teeth removed because they relied on these incomplete X-rays and did not realize I had a cavity. So I guess I will have to make another surgeon appointment and go through the procedures right away.So glad I followed my instincts on this and did not blindly rely on what I was told.
I came for a dental checkup, i saw the dentist and she was knowledgeable and nice to me. Now, I had provided my insurance information days before the appointment. Just because I had seen another provider the same day, I was forced to pay for everything out-of-pocket. I told them my insurance was going to cover for the visit, the front desk guy was almost yelling at me. I paid for the consultation and left.I needed a feeling so I contacted them yesterday to schedule, since they had already charged my insurance for x-rays and everything. I asked the lady on the phone to tell me how much my copay would be, to avoid another unpleasant surprise. She said she was giving me a call back with the amount, which she never did. I had to call back this morning, asking the same question: what would my out-of-pocket be?That’s only when I found out my insurance had fully paid for that previous visit, so I was basically charged twice! No one reached out to let me know I had a credit. Basically, had I not called, I would have never known.I’m giving 2 stars instead of 1 because the dentist was nice to me.
Everything about this practice is 5-star. Every staff member is professional is caring, efficient, and professional. Covid-19 precautions are extensive. I have not felt uncomfortable visiting this office!
Been visiting this office for–can it be?–more than 20 years. The team here is so professional, talented, and kind that I have continued to go here even though I have long since moved to the suburbs. It’s not convenient to slog back into the city for my appointments–but THAT’S how good Dr. Leas, Dr. Siegel, Shari, and the whole staff are.
I am petrified of the dentist. Nikki and Dr Siegel were very kind, patient And caring. I’ll make another review on Friday when the real work happens. But I have a feeling it will be the same. Thank you guys
Today was my first visit to this practice. They were great about covid precautions and I felt very safe. My hygienist was Shari and she was recommended to me by a friend and lived up to my high expectations. I managed a dental practice for almost 20 years so I know a good hygienist and well run office when I see one. I immediately texted my local family members and told them to schedule appointments with Shari. My only reservation is if I speak too highly of her it’ll be harder for me to get a future appointment, but she is deserving of the praise so I’ll spread the word.

A co-worker raved about this dental office a few years back when I stated I needed a new dental office…I have since been raving about this same practice to my friends and co-workers since becoming part of their patient family…I cannot express how KIND, HONEST and PROFESSIONAL all of the staff are!!!…They really are phenomenal!!!
Fantastic, friendly, and professional staff. I seldom wait more than a couple minutes for my appointment. COVID-19 protocols are solid, as they use masks and face shield. They also upgraded to a tooth-polishing device that doesn’t aerosolize saliva. My partner’s dentist did not make such an upgrade, thus she was unable to get her teeth polished during the pandemic. I also find that their check-in and check-out processes, as well as their reminder/notification systems are particularly efficient compared to those of other dental offices I’ve frequented.
I’ve been going to 1818 for a little over a year now because I’d become displeased with my then practice. A close friend and current patient recommended them and it was the best decision ever. The staff is very pleasant, professional and knowledgeable.
Dr. Doblin along with the staff (Drew & Nicole) were AMAZING! I went for gum contouring and Dr. Doblin explained everything and made sure I was comfortable during the procedure. He even followed up with me to see how I was doing after. My wedding is coming up soon and because he knew that he was able to put on the schedule quick, Drew who handles his book was able to put in fast when someone cancelled. I was even able to come in for a touch up. I’m now confident with my smile and I can’t wait to take my wedding photos!Thank you
I am extremely happy with the service I receive at Dentistry at 1818 Market Street. The professionalism and friendliness of the entire team is outstanding! My hygienist Danielle was very nice, did a great job cleaning my teeth and is very informative. Dr. Siegel does a very thorough exam and is always willing to answer my questions. Dr. Doblin did 2 implant surgeries and both were painless. Both Dr. Doblin and his assistant Nicki made me feel very comfortable. I was impressed with how important it was to them that I was comfortable during the process. Thank you to the entire top notch staff at Dentistry at 1818 Market Street for always showcasing excellent care to my dental needs!
This is only me second cleaning with this office, but this is the most relaxed I’ve ever felt at any dentist office. They found great solutions for keeping patients socially distanced while still being efficient. My hygienist was very compliantly about my oral hygiene (i maybe an adult, but a “great job!” always feels good) and explained everything she was doing as it was happening. And they were even able to set up a second appointment to fix a filling before my insurance runs.
Everyone was exceptionally kind, safety measures were being followed, and it was as enjoyable of an experience as a visit to the dentist could possibly be. I really appreciated the transparency around cost, willingness to answer questions and measures taken to make the patient feel comfortable.
I was so impressed by this dentistry office. First of all I was able to get a quick appointment for an urgent matter. The front desk assistants are delightful and extremely nice and helpful. They are upfront about costs and they accept a wide variety of dental insurances. Dr. Siegel was kind and on point as well as his dental assistant! Wonderful experience! Highly recommended. What a wonderful environment.
They are a great dentist, it took me a while after moving to Philadelphia to find a dentist I liked, but Dr. Siegel, the hygienists, and the front desk are all great. The only down side is they are difficult to schedule with, I suppose due to high demand (almost all hygienist slots are filled 6 months out), and their latest evening appointments are at 4:30p, but otherwise I have been pretty happy with them. I have a complicated insurance policy, and the front was very helpful in sorting through it and figuring it all out when I started coming here years ago.
Trans competent dentist. All the staff work quickly and gently, and appointments are accepted within 15 minutes of scheduling. I had 4 fillings done and it wasn’t as bad as I thought (always nice). If they accept your insurance, definitely give this office a try.
Great first experience! I am a new patient. The receptionist was very sweet, all the staff is super nice. Received clear and great advice. I didn’t have to wait long at all. They just had an opening while I was getting a routine check up for a teeth cleaning and asked if I wanted to get my teeth cleaned as well since it was covered by my insurance. I have been to many many dentists offices and this was probably the most pleasant.
To start I do NOT like Dentists. These guys are great. They put me at ease, explained what I needed to get done…without any pressure or litany of “things we should do”. Everyone was smiling (nice smiles too), from the doc to the front desk. I’d recommend these guys if your not a “dentist fan”.
